HTC has seen its struggles in recent years, failing to garner the high sales of competitors like Samsung and LG. As part of the company’s efforts to stay afloat, overhead has been trimmed down and the project roster is now confined to essential devices. Though HTC’s major releases are flagship devices, leaks have indicated that the company is targeting the bottom of the pyramid with a new Android One device.

The device in question is codenamed Ocean Life, according to leaker @LlabTooFeR. As part of the Android One requirements, the majority of HTC’s pre-loaded apps and software adjustments will be removed from the device. The Ocean Life will, however, include Sense 9.0 features over top of Android Oreo. HTC Ocean_Life

Android One is Google’s initiative to create smartphones that are targeted at emerging markets. These smartphones feature lightweight software paired with hardware that is suited to the needs of an emerging market with features like larger batteries and dual-SIM card slots.

Unlike many Android One smartphones, the HTC Ocean Life is said to feature respectable specs like a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, and a 16-megapixel camera.
